WASH

Promote good hygiene through the provision of safe and portable water. WASH remains an everyday need for the Apostolic community.

The unavailability of water and sanitation forces the Apostolic members to draw water from unclean water sources and use nearby bushes and open spaces for defecation due to lack of toilets which pose health risks especially diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid to the Apostolic members.

Previously, AWET successfully implemented various programs on aforementioned thematic areas. AWET with funding from UNKI Mine will be implementing community health and sanitation program in Wards 18 & 19 of Shurugwi district.

Sanitation

Inadequate sanitation is a major cause of infectious diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera, typhoid and dysentery world-wide.

Activities that where implemented by AWET to improve sanitation and hygiene conditions in Shurugwi where:

  • Construction of Blair Ventilated Improved Pit Latrines (BVIP) for households and other designated areas
  • Sanitation infrastructure will be disability inclusive
  • There will be identification and selection of households in need of BVIP
  • Sensitizing communities on good hygiene and sanitation practices e.g. setting up of pot racks , waste management facilities.
