Meet Our Founder
Tendayi Gudo
National Director – Apostolic Women Empowerment Trust (AWET)
Tendayi Gudo is the National Director of the Apostolic Women Empowerment Trust (AWET), a faith-based organisation dedicated to empowering women and adolescent girls within apostolic communities across Zimbabwe. She has been serving in leadership since 2016, guiding AWET’s mission to advance women’s rights, improve access to health services, and combat harmful social practices such as child marriages.
As a founder and long‑standing leader within AWET, Tendayi has played a pivotal role in addressing the deeply rooted challenges faced by women in apostolic sects. Her advocacy focuses on creating safe spaces for women and girls to make informed decisions about their social and economic well‑being. She has publicly emphasized the need to end early and forced child marriages and has worked to mobilize women of faith to raise their voices against these violations.
Tendayi also leads AWET’s national campaigns on gender‑based violence (GBV), child protection, and maternal health. She has highlighted the importance of community accountability, improved referral pathways, and encouraging survivors to report abuse through AWET’s support structures and toll‑free hotline. Her work includes collaborations with partners such as UNICEF and the Spotlight Initiative to reduce GBV and increase awareness across 52 districts.
Her leadership continues to strengthen AWET’s efforts to promote education, health rights, and empowerment for marginalized women, ensuring that apostolic communities move toward safer, more equitable practices. She remains a key voice in driving behaviour change, increasing immunisation uptake, and advocating for young women to participate in Zimbabwe’s social and economic development.
“As women in the apostolic sects, our voice will make a big difference in ending child marriages.”
